The Granville rail disaster occurred on 18 January 1977 at Granville, a suburb in Western Sydney. On this date a crowded commuter train derailed, running into the supports of a road bridge which came down onto two of its passenger carriages. In total, eighty-three people died and more than 210 were injured. It is the worst rail disaster in Australian history based on loss of life.
Rescuers performed extraordinary acts of bravery to stay with the injured in areas considered life-threatening, and it wasn't until 31 hours after the accident that the last victim of the accident was able to be removed from the site.
Each Year, the NSW Historic Police Museum supports the Granville Train Disaster Memorial Association by attending the Granville Train Disaster Day of the Roses Memorial, to honour the efforts of the rescue teams from the NSW Police Force, Fire and Rescue NSW, and Ambulance NSW by using our historic vehicles to represent the bravery of all rescuers involved.

The event was established in 2002 as the "Blue Ribbon Memorial Dinner” in honour of Constable Glenn McEnallay VA, who died on duty at the age of just 26. This event raises much needed funds for Police Legacy
Each year we have the privilege of displaying a Historic Vehicle at the prestigious Police Legacy Blue Ribbon Ball held at the ICC Sydney. This event not only allows us to showcase a piece of our rich history but also provides an opportunity for attendees to appreciate and commemorate the legacy of the NSW Police Force.
Additionally, as part of our commitment to supporting worthy causes, we make a donation to the Silent Auction held during the event. One of the highlights of this auction is the opportunity to purchase a once-in-a-lifetime experience: driving a Historic Vehicle around the iconic Mt Panorama circuit during the annual Repco Bathurst 1000. This unique opportunity not only offers an unforgettable experience for the lucky bidder but also contributes to the vital work of organizations such as Police Legacy.
